Overview

The Matilda was the second infantry tank developed by the British military, designed in the late 1930s for infantry support. On the North African front, it took advantage of its incredibly strong defensive armour and fought bravely as the main battle tank of the British army. It proved impervious to most German tank and anti-tank guns of the period, earning it the awe-inspiring nickname from its enemies, the ‘Queen of the Desert’.
