This Seeed sensor monitors soil moisture, temperature and electrical conductivity (EC), with measurement ranges of 0–100% saturation, –40 to +80°C, and 0–10,000 μS/cm. These parameters are key indicators of soil health and fertility, making the sensor suitable for a wide range of industrial and environmental monitoring tasks.
Soil EC reflects the salt content of the soil. High salinity can prevent plants from taking up water even when moisture levels are high, eventually causing damage or “burning.” Plants grow best within specific ranges of moisture, temperature and EC, so having reliable data helps growers understand the soil conditions and make informed decisions to support healthy growth and higher yields.
The Soil Moisture, Temperature & EC Sensor (MODBUS-RTU RS485) is built to industry standards, offering high precision, sensitivity and long-term durability. It combines three sensing functions into one device and includes automatic temperature compensation to maintain accurate readings despite changing environmental conditions.
By measuring the soil’s dielectric constant, the sensor provides stable and consistent volumetric water content (VWC) measurements across different soil types, following recognised international standards for soil moisture monitoring.
The stainless steel probe is designed for permanent installation and quick testing, with an IP68 rating for long-term reliability in the field. It’s suitable for scientific studies, water-saving irrigation, greenhouses, outdoor farming, horticulture, golf course turf management, forestry, precision agriculture and other professional monitoring applications. It can also be used to measure EC in water, nutrient solutions and other substrates.
It is compatible with SenseCAP LoRaWAN® Data Logger to connect with the LoRaWAN® network, enjoying the benefits of low-power and long-range communication.
